This is a perfectly passable knockoff of a Maratac Zulu strap,
I ordered this strap to replace the beautiful calfskin leather strap on a Wenger (ie. Swiss Army) Aerograph watch because I needed something durable that I can easily rinse off if I get some chemicals on it in the lab. This strap is based on the Maratac Zulu 5-ring strap, but it is NOT a realy Maratac Zulu, if that’s what you want, you’ll have to look elsewhere, because as far as I’ve found, no Maratac straps are sold on Amazon. This strap is what it is, and it may be fine for your needs.
Here’s what it’s got going for it:
*NATO style design means that if you lose one watch spring bar, you don’t lose the watch. Also, the design means that if the strap clasp fails, the two rings you fed the strap through will still hold your watch on.
*Because it has five rings, your watch probably won’t slide off the strap while it’s not on your wrist
*The strap is nylon, so it’s washable and won’t be harmed when you’re swimming.
*It has kind of a cool military/sporty look. It will look good if you go diving, mountain climbing, or on some kind of undercover recon mission.
I read some reviews really trashing this strap. A big part of people’s complaints seem to stem from the fact that a 5-ring strap is really complex as watch straps go. You need to know how to use it. I’ll address a few complaints I read about it:
*The strap is too long – Maybe it’s a little too long, but you can trim it off. If it’s way too long you’re not wearing it right. After the strap goes through the buckle, you need to feed it through the two rings, then BACK DOWN AGAIN.
*The nylon is cheap and flimsy – No, it really isn’t. As far as I can tell the nylon is as good as any other heavy ballistic nylon. The holes on it could have been made better though. A real Maratac Zulu has clean laser drilled holes, this doesn’t.
*The stitching is bad – True. The stitching could be a bit better, but it looks like it’ll hold, and frankly I know how to sew, so I’m not too worried personally.
*The finish on the buckles is horrible – I disagree. It doesn’t match up to the lovely brushed finish on the original Wenger strap I’m replacing, or the perfect PVD coating they have, but it’s perfectly fine for a twelve dollar strap, and nobody’s gonna see the minor flaws it has.
*The two rings on the other side of the strap just jingle, they don’t do anything – You’re wearing the strap wrong. Believe it or not, every single part of a 5-ring Zulu strap has a function. There’s a special trick to using those two extra rings, and if you thread the through right, they’ll never jingle at all, and will keep your watch on more securely. Maybe I’ll make a video eventually…

I bought this for a ColorEvo Luminox watch. I was not happy with the thick rubber gauntlet the watch normally comes with and bought a replacement “Swiss Army style” band, but it was not the right width, plus a spring bar opened on me and I would have lost the watch if I were not in my own house. Enter the NATO strap. You really only need 4 of the rings I think one is really more to make it look sporty. Pass the bare ended-nylon part of the band through the two free rings on the end of the front part of the strap (this is where 1 ring would work, but the additional one make it look tough). This makes a loop over which you mount your watch. Put the watch on your wrist as usual, but fold the remain strap so the excess slides into the two rings by the buckle. It feels kinda clunky at first, but the more I wore it the more I liked it. If I had to change one thing about it, it would be to make the nylon feel thicker (double-ply?). Very happy with it other than that.

|Great NATO strap,
I ordered the black 5-ring ‘Zulu’ variety of this NATO strap. As another reviewer mentioned, it’s a great lower-cost alternative to a Maratac. Mine was shipped and arrived very quickly. I found the nylon to be robust and very good quality, the black-finished rings to be a nice touch; the 5-ring configuration keeps my watch in position. Looks great on my Seiko SKX-031 automatic, and a fine replacement for the cheap folded-link stainless bracelet it came on. Super strap for twelve bucks – thanks guys!
