I just returned from vacation from Italy where I rented a villa in Tuscany for two(2) weeks and my stay was fantastic. However, I must say purchasing the SD card of Italy (Greece as a bonus) and installing same in my ‘garmin street pilot” was the best thing I did for that vacation. Firstly I thought installing the SD card would delete my North America map but it did not because that said map is on the hard drive of the said device and the Italy map was read direct from the card because there is a setting to choose between the two maps which for my unit is either one “Italy & Greece” or two ” North America.
Secondly, what was a bit disappointing initially was I installed the card at the airport in Florence upon picking up my vehicle and it could not find the villa address and I did not know what other closer address to set on my garmin so the other family we travelled with did it the old-fashioned way and used a map to reach just off the highway and then we called the owner of the villa to guide us to the actual location. it was understandable that the GPS did not have the address because we had to travel on an unpaved road for at least 4 mins before arriving where there was no GPS map or signal for the said location. However before entering the unpaved road (where there was GPS coverage) I pressed on the arrow of the GPS, a message came up and asked if I wanted to save as a favorite, I said “yes” and stored same as “Villa” so every time I left the villa, upon my return I will simply press on favorites and then villa and presto. Fantastic!
Thirdly, my friends were really converts to GPS (because they are accustom using the old-fashioned maps) on the day we went to Siena, upon our return, it was night and this road had no street lights just reflector devices along the roadside and the journey was about one and a half hours long. That particular night the GPS map paid for itself, we did not make one incorrect turn (and trust me there were several opportunities to make incorrect turns). We arrived exhausted from the day with no additional frustration and delay from being lost and having that experience was priceless especially when you have young kids.
Bottomline, this product is a no brainer! Got to get it or you can be “penny wise and pound foolish” and be frustrated when you get lost.

Excellent, a must for Travel in Italy. I used it extensively from Sarento To Austria.

I just received this product and it took 3 hours to get it to work on a 60csx. The manual consists of 1 3″x 3″ page in English of which 1/3 is a warning and 1/3 is a legal disclaimer.
I’m still in the States but from what I can see the maps are very good, with plenty of useful POI’s. This chip did not work with Garmin Mapsource or Garmin Map installer. Insert the chip into the unit and figure it out from there. Meaning as far as I can tell, no PC tie in.
In my opinion Garmin makes the best mapping product on the market. Which is a shame because they are consistently overpriced with minimal support. It takes hours on line to see how useful their products can be. Which can be a little scary when you can’t get on line.

We just got back from a two week vacation in Italy. We rented a car and ultimately drove about 1400 miles between Rome, Pompeii, Abruzzo/Sulmona, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Padova, Venice, and Milan. I could never have done this trip without the GPS.
CONS: only a few. When we first got to Rome the GPS (Nuvi 265WT) didn’t initially pick up any satellites, especially indoors. After about 2 days and while walking outdoors it started to pick up satellites and from there it worked fine. Also, it directed me to a parking garage in Siena which ultimately led me down a one-way street going the wrong way. This created a little traffic issue and some temporary stress but ultimately we re-directed to the same garage. Lastly, our hotel near Venice was located on a pedestrian-only piazza so the GPS literally led me to where I really wasn’t supposed to be, though next to the hotel where an attendant led us to a parking place.
PROS: For me the GPS saved our trip. I could never have driven to the places we went relying only on maps. My wife and I would have killed each other. I couldn’t read most of the signs and many of the local Italians didn’t speak English thus couldn’t give us directions.
The GPS maps were very detailed and accurate and literally led me from point-to-point. It was easy to pre-load destinations (either by address or specific name) as well as parking locations. It was easy to convert the format from miles to kilometers. I even drove in Rome where the streets are small, random, and loaded with cars and scooters. I always zoomed in the GPS to provide the most detail and simply followed the purple line to my destinations.
For $70 on Amazon (similar price on Ebay) this was a minimal expense which saved our trip and made the driving a fun part of the vacation. Unless you speak fluent Italian and enjoy getting lost in a foreign country, don’t drive in Italy without this.

I’m not sure how this chip would work for driving, but I purchased it to help us navigate around Rome, Venice and Athens for our recent trip. It proved pretty much useless. It took way too long to recognize where it was, particularly when we changed locations, but even when it had just been off for a while in the same city. I ended up using my iPhone and Google Maps, which worked much better, although that service also leaves something to be desired as far as orienting you to where you are. Anyway, we had a great trip, mostly by asking for directions at our hotels and occasionally on the streets. Since I don’t regularly travel to Europe, purchasing the chip to help us get around was pretty much a waste of $80.
