  1. You are on your own figuring out the best way to mount it.

    Shipping was prompt.

  2. I hate a GPS mounted on the windshield and I have been trying different types of vent mounts for my Pontiac Grand Prix for quite a while. Most vent mounts are either too short for the vent or don’t have good grip. This unit is perfect. It holds my Garmin 855 tight without having to create extra support of it.

  3. I purchased the IG-A05 dashboard vent mount for my Garmin nuvi GPS so I could move it between my cars and rental cars when I travel. The design is ingenious. The two clips slide in a slot to vary their spacing. Each clip rotates so it can grab a vent louver at any angle from horizontal to vertical. A kick-stand type hinged leg supports the mount from below. Loosen the collar and you can adjust the angle of the shaft holding the pivot ball for the GPS bracket. Unfortunately, it appears that it cannot accommodate all varieties of dashboard vents.

The thin plastic vent louvers in my Lexus have a streamlined cross section, thicker at the pivot than at the edges. The saw-toothed clips grab the louver, and I found a good place to rest the supporting leg. Even so, it eventually shook loose during a sedate drive in my Lexus with the GPS attached.

My classic Corvette has a metal-ball side vent with thick straight metal louvers. The mount clips grab the louver tightly and the leg rests in the crease between the dash and the ball. The mount prevailed through a bumpy and sporty test drive with my GPS in the Corvette.

I had hoped to take the mount on trips for use in rental cars to avoid the scarce availability and inflated charges for GPS. I am skeptical that I can get the mount to work in a unknown car.

  4. The best mounting solution I have found for a smaller vehicle with little dash space. I use this with my Nuvi 785T.

I ordered this mount along with the Arkon GN047 which is very similar in design. I prefer this mount to the GN047, it is sturdier, better made, and clips onto the vent harder and does not move around.

I have a smaller vehicle with very little dash space, and windshield mounts are not a legal option in my state. The dash of my car (BMW 3-Series) is textured, so the standard stick-on mounts do not work. I tried several of the Garmin friction mounts (both the beanbag and sticky rubber mount) – so far all on-the-dash options are wrong for my car for a variety of reasons.

My only complaint is that it sticks out a little far compared to the Arkon mount due to the extra adjustment arm, but that is a very minor complaint. If you are looking for a sturdy vent mounting solution for your Garmin GPS then this is it.

  5. Like the older IG-A03 this clip can be expanded with a bike reflector bracket around the front socket to mount atop the dash reliably, out of the airflow. See the review on the IG-A03. For that possibility I rate it the best. The only problem might be the length of the clips some reported too short for some cars when limited to 3/4″. If this one is also too short and some of the other “clothespin” types work on wider slats, the pins might be transferable to this one, as they are separated parts looking very similar.

This clip uses a pressure grip on the slats without the prominent hook behind the slat on the spring-loaded IG-A03. This allows it to be used on longer slats, round slats and vertical slats supposedly better. For horizontal slats which fit I’d prefer the A03, maybe even vertical ones up to 3/4″. Best examine the application carefully before selecting.
