  1. I ordered the wrong item my mistake, was not allowed to return for exchange due to the package being opened. Was given the run around and no choice but to eat my purchase.

  2. This mount is exactly like the one that came with my Garmin Nuvi 855. Works just fine.

  3. I didn’t need this as I have almost every mounting adapter for my Nuvi GPS receiver (yes it is technically a receiver) that was ever made anywhere in the World and probably have more $$ tied up in mounts than the Nuvi!

I wanted a back up replacement for the snap in cradle I currently use. Most of the adapters don’t actually have the Nuvi cradle that allows power (and other things) to be applied to cradle so the GPS unit is wire free.

A backup… I haven’t used it but I do have a warm fuzzy feeling knowing I have two… “My Precious”….. Ok, forget the Lord Of The Rings reference…

  4. Works fine in a second car when changing or sharing your GPS. You will need to use the same power cable that came with the nuvi GPS unit or purchase another power cable.

  5. Since Garmin apparently doesn’t offer a standalone cradle for the Garmin 855 GPS, I purchased the suction-cup mount kit Garmin Suction-Cup Mount For nuvi 850/880 010-10987-02to obtain the cradle only for use in a second car. I tossed the suction-cup mount itself so this review does not rate the suction mount itself. It rates/reviews the cradle only. The cradle is used on a vent mount IG-A03: i.Trek Vent Mount for Garmin Nuvi 200, 200W, 250, 250W, 260, 260W, 270, 205, 205W, 255, 255W, 265T, 265WT, 275T, 500, 550, 680, 750, 760, 770, 780, 755T, 765T, 775T, 785T, 850, 880, 500.

The suction-cup mount seems like a possible tip-off to people prowling parking lots, looking for GPS devices to steal, so I prefer the vent mount, which is at least not visible from a casual look. The vent mount and the cradle are mounted in a 2006 Toyota Avalon in the center heater/AC vent.

I could have just moved the GPS (including the cradle) from car to car, but I found it was fairly hard to dismount the cradle from the vent mount itself, due to a very tight fit of the cradle to the ball, so tight that I was afraid I’d break the vent mount or the flimsy, plastic vent vanes. That would have cost a whole lot more than an extra cradle. By having a cradle in each car, I only have to move the GPS itself, which is very easy to disconnect from the cradle.

The vent mount/cradle performs quite well. The GPS is below the windshield, so as not to block any part of my field of vision. It is out of the sun, reducing glare on the GPS screen. It does not vibrate, unless I’m on a very bumpy road. It’s also closer for any touch screen commands.

I gave only 4 stars due to the difficulty in removing the cradle from the vent mount knob.
